Re: Off topic icestorm-skating on fields |
Took me 12 hours to get back home...thanks to ice in Dallas...at Kansas City I was able to get in car and start it but had to kick the car a few times to shatter the ice on it. The wipers were frozen and did not work as I drove 130 miles in light snow with large trucks splattering my windshield at night. Even though I kept trying the wipers, they started just when I parked at home. I tried the ice skates for the firt time in 6 months...on the back yard, and it was good so went and skated on the fields at the local park....was pretty cool, slaloming down hills on ice skates in the dark. Did not skate into any barbed wire fences. Am headed to a big park and golf course now. I may try the Katy trail tomorrow and skate 13 miles each way to Rocheport if it is any good. I stopped at a rest area about 60 km west of here and the ice on snow was the same...so there is probably no reason why you could not just skate most of the way across the western half of the state on fields. Once in a lifetime conditions, although growing up we would skate in the woods (but would break through now and then) and once it was excellent ice on the roads...
