You make a good point Mike. In previous posts across the various forums I have always said that I consider Mw as the final magnitude. I also try to guesstimate the focal mechanism based on prior activity. So I need to study the beachball. As we all know, even those are changed. Sometimes I have conflicting beachballs between NEIC and Harvard. I think John Vidale said to rely on the Harvard solution, because they have more stations to look at. Usually, they end up very close to the same, maybe off on dip or rake by a degree or two. So I do like the two week idea.
