And thank you, Glen, for reminding me of that other possible usage. I do recall reading that, at Cascadia, or some other subduction zone, reverse slab movement has been detected. But can't recall specifically that the term "backslip" was used therein. I am somewhat taken aback by your suggestion that there is a possibility that the CSZ megathrust quake "is not going to happen." Perhaps I'm mis-reading you. It has been quite thoroughly established that such events have occurred several times in recent geological history. And it is doctrine that geological processes which have occurred in the past continue to happen. There seems to be little chance that a process which has been going on for millions of years would stop during our lifetimes. Maybe you just meant it would be delayed . . . Also, do you have a reference for the reverse slippage of the entire Pacific Plate every 14 to 16 months? See ya, Mike Williams
