I've been most fascinated by what differentiates a foreshock from a mainshock.

If a pattern could be found for certain faults that produce foreshocks, I think the field of earthquake prediction could take a major step forward.

So far, the only answers I've heard are "Well, it's a mainshock until something bigger proves it a foreshock." And yet, I see this pattern ...

Different from the microquake cluster theory, which I also see as valid. And speaking of which, has anyone looked at the area around Hollister and SJB today? Yikes.
