Loma Prieta not on the SA Fault?

Hi everyone, A couple of years ago I remember reading that there was some debate in the scientific community about whether or not the Loma Prieta event occured on the San Andreas Fault. At the time there was a siesmologist claiming, and I stress the word claiming that he did digs and stuff around the San Andreas Fault and there was no evidence of a sizable quake there since 1906. Theories speculated that it may have been on a fault called the Seargant fault or one starting w/ a Z (Zyante?) Again, I read this years ago, I think in the Chronicle. Ever since I've noticed based on the latest probabilites that the scientists seemed to have in the end concluded this event was on the San Andreas. I was wondering if anyone else had ever heard this story at the time and or continue to hear such theory being discussed today and what they think of it. Todd P.S. If this theory is in consideration, I would think this throws off the probabilities, as the Santa Cruz mountains segment would have to be refigured in.
