Yeah - there's got to be some subjectiveness I suppose - like martin's forecast for Ridgecrest and one hit 75miles away in Idyllwild - i don't consider that a close call at all. One is geothermal and the other is strike-slip faulting. On the other hand I would think that Dennis's call for a 5 in Tejon and getting one further south at Big Bear near the same fault system is worth of some credit. And martin's 20km outside of his area - 45km from location is pretty close though I am not familiar with the area. Hard to distinguish - its a difficult thing to do. I guess we need to look at WHY we are attempting to predict - If we ever want any credible attention we have to have some justifiable methods - If we predicted a 6.5 for Northridge and a 6.5 hit in Dana Point - Opps - its close but the wrong people were evacuated. Now all the emergency vehicles and personnel are a few hours away from where they need to be.
