Hi All. While not in the area that Petra and I have been looking at for a major quake on the Rodgers Creek fault today's quake, which was a 1.7Md, may be an indication that the southern portion of the fault is starting to move.

In Petras study area digs have indicated that there have been 3 quakes in the last 1000 years for a total offset of 15 feet. Today's quake is still north of her study area, (about 6 miles) but does indicate that movement within the fault is towards the south. The further south the quakes occur the greater the odds are for a major quake.

What has to be watched for in the next coming months well be the number and frequency of the quakes.

Looking towards the north the fault is at a angle towards the east so it would be safe to say that any quake located 3-4 miles east of the fault and at a depth between 8 to 12 miles could be associated with the fault.

There is however one other thing that has to be taken into consideration and that is that this quake could be an aftershock of the Rohnert Park quake in 1999.

All in all I would have to say that things could get very interesting in a big hurry. Take Care…Don in creepy town.
