As for the gift of life, I can predict that in the next 20 years far more people will die as a result of climate change than earthquakes. And slowing climate change by reducing carbon emissions is something that really is practical. But in a selfish society people would much rather squander energy without a thought about the tens of thousands who will die in flooding of low-lying areas in other parts of the world.
