Brian, if that is the actual quote (and it probably is), it loses a lot in not being placed in context. In fact, it seems like rather a non-sequitur here. I had always heard that the quote was "Ending a sentence with a preposition is something up with which I shall not put." But, thanks to you, I now believe (assuming you have it right) that my sources were confabulating his actual quote in order to humorously make a point about ending a sentence with a preposition. As in "prediction of earthquakes is something I am very skeptical of."
