Stress transients are more credible at shorter ranges. There is a temporal correlation, for instance, between events on the N Mid-Atlantic Ridge and those in Norway. I find connections between PNG or Turkmenistan and the US harder to believe. "Far-field aftershock" should be reserved for events on the same structure, or a related one. For very large sources, aftershocks can be spread over a few hundred km.
