Retrofitting |
Found these following links that appear to be quite usefull. The first site called "Building for Disaster" at: http://www.disastercenter.com/build.htm has lots of good links including retrofitting how-to's. One subsequent link does show it costing around $200 dollars for the bolts if you do it yourself. This technique wouldn't work The second site called "Money for Mitigating Earthquake Hazards" at: http://www.abag.ca.gov/bayarea/eqmaps/fixit/money.html It talks about how to get funding to do your retrofitting (I didn't know about this program which goes to show how well the government does in getting the word out). A third site is a 10/15/99 article from the Costra Costa Times called, "Quake Prep 101: A primer for cutting earthquake risks at home" at: http://www.contracostatimes.com/news/quake/hold/dcr07748.htm It also mentions the earthquake retrofitting program and a phone number to call. Its interesting to note that this article talks about some buildings that were supposedly retrofitted prior to Northridge but still collapsed saying that the work wasn't done correctly. Oh well, one more thing to worry about. :-) Enjoy, Follow Ups: ● Re: Retrofitting - Petra Challus 23:21:29 - 10/20/2000 (3842) (0) |
