California's northern border is at 42 N. It's southern border is at just about 32.5 N. The mid-point latitude, then is 37.25 North. The M4.7 quake was at 37.1 (i.e. 37 degrees, 6 minutes) N. Consequently it was in the southern half of the State. Mike Williams in Arroyo Grande, CA (which, I admit, I always claim is in "Central California", rather than in "Southern California".)
