Re: Ah. (NT) |
I have Roger beat! I was on the cover of the National Enquirer (the large, full-cover photo, not one of the little ones). The large-type caption screamed "Garbagemen Save Drowning Couple." This was back in about 1967, and I was 17 years old, working for the Santa Cruz Seaside Company (the operators of the Boardwalk). One of my duties was collecting the garbage and burning it in a giant incinerator located near the San Lorenzo River mouth. Early in the AM, a young couple drove their car off the cliff on the opposite side of the river (near the RR trestle), and the car plunged down into the river, nose-first. Subsequently, I and my co-worker did what anyone else (who could swim) would have done, and pulled them out of the car. It was rather exciting, because the water-level was up around their chests, and the car was slipping down - it ultimately submerged a few minutes after we got them out.
