Living in earthquake country, I put an extra 30K into engineering our house for safety above all, and so feel pretty safe here. I live in Aptos, about five miles south on Santa Cruz. Sandy soil, so we are on 12' and 15' piers but not off the ground. More foundation hold downs than our engineering inspector had ever seen.
