Russell, you are oh, so right -- a person has to want to change.

My brother was the most intelligent person I ever knew, but he had "problems" dealing with life in general.

Did I bring it up with him that he needed help? Yes.

Did it do any good? No.

Do I wish I had been more insistent, more forceful? Absolutely.

Would it have made a difference? Who knows?

He died 19 years ago this month from an overdose of sleeping pills. He was 45 years old.

I still think about it often and wish I had done something, anything different.
