My understanding is that Dennis seemed to be doing well because the probability was not being calculated correctly and when that was rectified and his true results were shown, he quit.

Probability is a tricky field. If you have 100 quakes in 100 days and you say 100/100 = 1, you're probably wrong since all 100 could have happened in a week.
