Hi Russell. One of the best things anyone can do is head for high ground as soon as one feels a large quake and they are near the ocean, or a river that empties into the ocean. If they wait for the alarm to be given it may be to late. 30 minutes would be enough time if a plan has been thought of before the quake strikes.

Most certainly trying to evacuate in a vehicle is going to reduce your chances of getting to a safe area. People on foot can go places where a vehicle can’t. Of course there are areas where the highest point above sea level that would be safe may be a couple of miles from the coastline, but the more distance you can put between yourself and the coast the better the odds are that you will survive. Another possibility is to evacuate upwards. Some buildings can survive a tsunami with little problems.

Of course that has to be determined in advance. It all comes down to planning. Plan to be a survivor the chances of being a survivor are good. Take Care…Don in creepy town
