no convincing precursory heat signals |
There are lots of claims of the ground heating up before earthquakes, but I've seen none that stand close scrutiny. Although anything is possible, we geophysicists expect precursory seismicity or deformation to be visible from far smaller disturbances than it would take to heat up the ground. As there are not clear seismicity or deformation signals before large earthquakes, it is not a surprise we can't see heat anomalies.
