That explanation about earthquake safety could apply to other emergencies too. It's good to remember that safety during disasters depends partly on the local situation, building materials and construction. I grew up learning about tornado safety, and some of those recommendations have changed over the years. So I read safety information posted in hotels and other buildings and assume it's correct advice for that location, then hope I can remember those procedures if an emergency occurs there.
