some have seen the opposite. This kind of pattern has to show statistical significance, as the eye often sees patterns where there are none. Some scientists in Japan have the opposite as their current model - a dip in seismicity is taken to indicate that an area has started to slip aseismically and is dangerous. Mogi donuts have the surrounding region quiet, well-documented foreshock patterns have the middle lighting up. The latest models of Bowman have just some surrounding regions lighting up just before earthquakes. Given that we have dozens to hundreds of earthquakes well-recorded, these models are not so hard to test now.
