Also most human deaths occur because of crushing during an earthquake because of the poor construction of cities. Cities are very new in the time scheme of human evolution. Hunter gatherers probably felt many earthquakes, and just kept going on and did not take appreciable notice. Good point. Civilization as we know it is very new.
