They Ran Out of Peanuts at the Circus

Hi All,

I've had a few days to think about what has been going on here and I don't usually quit or leave things up in the air, so this being my last post here I guess I should say something of value.

When things around here get kind of dull I used to host an Earthquake Contest to kind of liven things up and I do tend to prattle when I'm upset or nervous, so I suppose my jump rope post was a little outside the boundaries. I have been very upset about my health issues and I have been quite alarmed at a few of the posts made here with people demanding information from me. I don't have to tell anyone anything and I'm not going to now. In light of my stating I was not feeling well, I really am at a loss to understand how cruel some people can be under those circumstances. So while I've been so concerned about a possible emergency that I haven't even gone to bed until around three in the morning thinking something might happen and I would die during the night, I've got people over here asking for something. What in the world are you doing? I don't understand, nor will I ever. If I said my feelings were hurt, know that's the case.

So seven years and counting from when I came here and little was known about ear tones, somehow I managed to pull it together and make some sense of it and believe me, out there in the real world and in scientific circles as well, there are people who are interested. It isn't perfect and I don't have all of the answers, but I'm working as much as I can to find them. I told the cardiologist the other day about all of my interests and he said, "so you work about 25 hours a day." I said, "no, not quite that many."

As for the Nexus Article, when is it not favorable to mention publications, especially if it is in regard to someone who is here? When John V has been in the press, it's been discussed here. So why am I treated differently? As I've said on numerous occasions, the people in my group are not psychics, yet those old connotations are up front and center here all of the time. If your intent is to make us feel like we are lesser beings, I'm sorry, it doesn't work. The Salem Witch trials are long gone and as you know from history there never were any witches in Salem and yet they killed them anyway. My goodness have we learned nothing? I'm not the back of bus kind of person and I don't believe in being prejudice either, but boy it seems like that's what is going on here. I wish I were purple and then you could all say I was purple and different and then all people of purple could be discriminated against. I am different because I do care too much about everyone, everywhere, no matter what's going on.

I serve my community and the residents of the State of California well. I am proud of my accomplishments and I have many more to make before my life is over and I'm not going to spend any more time here answering anyone's questions. I have two active web sites which address both safety and earthquake prediction and if anyone wants to know where I am or what I'm doing, go there. If you have a question, my e-mail address is posted on both sites.

So get on with it. Those who are interested, this is your golden moment. Stand up and make your predictions, let someone else pick you apart for doing so and then you'll know what it feels like. Everyone's an expert when it comes to critiquing your work. Don't forget to support your local scientific community, go out and volunteer when they have an open house. Join AGU, read, read, read. Attend a lecture when you can and further your education. I may be the only person whoever posted here to spend $5,000 one year to just visit with scientists and ask, why not? That was an education well worthy of the expense. And regardless of my arguments with John and Chris, I admire them greatly and have much respect for both of them. Roger Hunter will still be doing my evaluations as he has been and when Don joins me on my web site he will cover those as well. Hopefully, one more will arrive sometime in the months ahead. For the first time ever, practicing earthquake prediction by a trio on the Internet should be an interesting experience.

My intentions are clear. I do wish to see earthquake prediction in places where people die in 5.0> earthquakes. California may never see public earthquake prediction for a variety of reasons, but saying it is not possible is not acceptable, because it is possible in some cases. That is my opinion and one I stand very firmly on. Show me one other person in this world who can predict an earthquake only 3.67 miles from where I said it would be, at the right magnitude and within the window provided. There aren't any. And who knew Parkfield was going to go 27 hours in advance? Only yours truly. And amazingly by only one sound, one time.

Farewell to my Internet friends, I'll miss you greatly,

Petra Challus
