Hi Don,

While it may be a bit of a relief for those millions living near the northern segment of the Hayward Fault, the article says little about the current movement, or lack thereof on my Rodgers Creek Fault. With the lower segment near the San Pablo Bay being the last locked segment without activity for quite a long period of time, I don't feel the least bit reassured, and that the danger element is still ever present. That segement is about 10 miles south/southeast of Petaluma and sits near the marshy inlets around Black Point and just somewhat east of Novato.

For those who have been surfing prediction pages around the net, those who have the gift of foresight about that particular area, all give credence to the eventual probability of a 7.0 or greater earthquake which will cause widespead damage to Novato, all of Petaluma and north into the Santa Rosa area. All off these areas sit in the alleuvial plain of the Santa Rosa basin, which was formed by the erosion of the hills surrounding the plain. High ground intensity shaking is expected from any moderate to large earthquake in this area. A 5.0 or greater could cause substantial damage, whereas in other area's with more rocky strata, much less. Its is an ever present danger that few in this area are truthfully aware of and in that lack of preparation takes an equal measure for any future earthquake problems that no doubt will arise.

I am pleased though, as the article indicates further study in and around the Bay Area, which most likely includes my RCF.

Thanks for sharing...Petra
