Hi Brian. Thanks a bunch. You have explained the very process I have used in the pass and have seen done in the pass. I have seen the brick and sandpaper used, but I have also seen where two rocks were used. Both applications apply and most likely there are some we have never thought of or if we have we have dismissed them as being impossible.

Indeed the Loma Prieta quake is said to have been caused by unclamping by two M=5.0+ quakes one of which occurred 15 months prior to the quake and the other 2 months prior to the quake. It has also been said that the quake may not have occurred on the San Andreas fault as the motion of the quake was 1/3 thrust and 2/3 strike-slip.

An acceleration in creep was seen 12 weeks before the 1984 Morgan Hill quake. What was the connection between the two? Was there a connection between the two?

We have creep in Hollister that started in 1929. Why did it start then? There was no quake to speak of that started it. There is so little we know and there is even less that we understand.

The Parkfield experiment may have failed because the earth surrounding the instruments was to soft and the soft earth absorbed the dilational and or tensor strain that may have been there. There was an increase in strain about 15 seconds before the quake occurred. That was all that was seen. In 1993 the magnetics dropped on the southwest side of the fault while increasing on the northeast side of the fault. The drop was very close to where the quake occurred. Was there, is there a connection and if so what is it?

I was able to predict 7 earthquakes in the San Juan Bautista area using the Echo Valley dilational strain data, but it is no long there as it is now broke. They weren’t very big quakes, but they were close enough and just large enough to show an increase in strain about 17 hours before the quakes occurred. I have seen acceleration in creep in the Bay Area. I have seen an increase in strain in the Bay Area, but I have never been able to predict a quake using the strain data in the Bay Area even though there were what appeared to be indications that one was about to occur.

There is a chatter which is has been named the “Cholame Chatter” occurring in the area of the 1857 quake. There is one little problem. The chatter is occurring at a level where quakes aren’t supposed to be able to occur so why are they? Lots of question, but not many answers. Take Care…Don in creepy town
