low angle normal fault?

I have not read any posts the last week and have not kept up the last month...but...this M7.4 may be important beyond the region, because the focal mechanism is for either a normal fault earthquake on a very steep fault or a very flat fault. There had been a rather large controversy as to whether it is possible to have a large earthquake on such a flat fault (if that was the correct nodal plane). But, if it happened, it must be possible. I am appointed adjunct at a place that is at the center of people who don't believe that low-angle normal fault earthquakes are possible...but I am not one of these people....Chris Chris
