My Prediction For Earthquake Prediction

Hi All. I can’t help but feel that when the first official earthquake prediction is made it is going to be largely ignored. The reason being is that the people have been living with the threat of an major quake for so many years that they have come to take anything said about the next major quake as little more then an advisory. In other words it comes with living in California.

Most of the people that I know and have talked with about the Loma Prieta quake and the next major quake are of the opinion that if you live in California you can expect a major quake, but no sense in getting worked up over it because it may not occur near where you live, or indeed it may not even occur in your lifetime. Its not like we have a major quake everyday.

Most have said they knew about Jim Berkland’s prediction for the Loma Prieta quake and most said they didn’t do anything different on that day as opposed to any other day. Indeed the World Series was being played and for the most part people were going about doing the routine things they have always done. I was sitting on the couch watching the idiot machine and one of our cats was on the couch next to me sound asleep. The other cat had just jumped up on the bookshelf where she usually stretched out when the quake struck. In a flash she was gone and the cat that was sleeping on the couch didn’t move until the quake was over. She got up looked at me turned around a couple of times and laid back down and gave me a look as if to say “quit shaking the couch I’m trying to sleep.”

The other thing that makes me think that the first official quake prediction is going to be a ho-hum deal is the Kellis Borok prediction for the Southern California area. From everything I could find and learn about the reaction of the people living in the area was that no one blinked. They was no rush on the stores for supplies, no mad dash to get out of the area, no special precautions issued, no nothing. When the time period ended there was a report of a lady that was suppose to have called USGS or UCLA asking if it was alright for her to put her knick-knacks back on the shelf. It never occurred to her that the quake could occur next week, next month, or the next day. The time period for the quake to occur had ended so therefore there was no danger.

In order to be a survivor you have to have a mind set of a survivor. You prepare to be a survivor. This doesn’t mean that you stay out of all buildings, stay off of all overpasses and bridges, and don’t ride on high-speed trains, or go into tunnels etc. It does mean to be aware of your surroundings. Where are the emergency exits, where are the stairs that lead out of the building, are you close to an inside wall, or an outside wall, what can fall on you, what can block an exit? Make this a part of your routine and it will become a part of your daily living so that you aren’t even aware of your doing it. You can be a survivor if you prepare to be a survivor. Take Care…Don in creepy town
