It's spring, well almost |
There's nothin' like springtime..... Don and I took a leisurely drive up to Windsor this afternoon to check out the location of several popcorn quakes of late and we were nicely surprised. Unlike most hillsides in this area, it wasn't composed of adobe and other soils, but exclusively ash. There were two small slides on the hill and it was very clear when the water mixed with the ash it just poured all the way down the hill. I dug out some rocks from the lower part of the hill and easily pulled out several pieces of obsidian and a tiny piece of serpentine that was pristine and clean. Basalt was in abundance as well as many flow layering rocks, however, as I have a plethora of them in my yard I didn't bring any home. The largest quake in this area was a 3.93ML on 10/2/69, which occurred after the two 5.0 quakes on that date. The first Santa Rosa quake was a 5.2 at a depth of 0.07 km, and the second Santa Rosa quake of 5.2 was at a depth of 4.16 km. There were two aftershocks with an unusual depth when compared to the rest. One was at 22.58Km and the other was at 28.13Km. One quake was north of the two 5.2ML quakes the other was south of them.
