I know the Oak - it's where the first gold was found in California. I remember hiking Placerita Canyon in 1995-1997 after the Northridge quake and there was nothing around but if I recall correctly, on one of those hikes with a big church group or something (about 1995) someone remarked that it had been messy w/ oil before Northridge and now (in 1995) all you could smell was sulfur in one place along the stream (Sulphur Spings?) I had to stop hiking it around 1997 but recall that later (through 2002) when we hiked it, there wasn't much of a "mess" and little sulfur smell. Not sure what it means, other than it makes me homesick. Beth
