OK, Roger modified the program to plot all 4 areas on one plot (as separate sets of rows)...I assume these are plotted in order with north at the bottom. One could imagine a south to north progression related to Hector Mine (I think Canie may have mentioned this?)....otherwise, I don't see anything...so I doubt it is a strong effect, if there is any effect at all. Unlike some other stuff discussed on this page, it seems plausible that there could be a relation between Gulf and SOCAL quakes. So, the question is whether this needs to be looked at differently...do we need a bin with Mexican subduction quakes also, or northern East Pacific rise quakes south of the Gulf. Roger thinks his program may round the magnitudes to the nearest integer, which could cause some distortions to what we are looking at but would not hide the pattern. One problem is that there are few M6 or larger quakes in his data base for the Gulf...maybe only one M7...so hard to say if the M6.8 should have a stronger effect. So far, I don't see anything much... Chris
