Re: retrofitting/reinforcement questions |
Just a couple of suggestions, Mary. A major factor in whether to buy the house and to then fix it up is whether it is built on a slab, or sits on stem walls over a crawl-space. The former configuration makes it much harder to remodel. A crawl-space allows for easier running of wiring and new plumbing. And, if you were to buy, you should plan on making it your home for a good, long while, since the type of remodeling you are facing seldom pays off in re-sale value. Unless you can buy it absolutely dirt-cheap, it is a much better candidate for a rental . . . Good luck!
