RCF - So Close |
Hi All, Don and I often harp about the Rodgers Creek Fault and little by little interesting quakes pop up, like the one which occurred this morning. (see below) This quake occurred probably less than a mile from the location of the twin October 5.5/5.6 1969 quakes and I believe it is the first earthquake there which was a near 3.0 in ages. As I'm home for a few extra days this week from pulling a back muscle during a turkey altercation, I decided to go to the store at the north end of town yesterday afternoon. As I approached all I could think about was the fault scarp which is just a few more blocks up the road from the store and boy I wanted to go over there. But the traffic was nightmarish and I thought I'd have a problem getting a parking space, so I nixed the idea. Anyway, the fault scarp is within eyeball distance of Kaiser Hospital and about 1/4 mile from Sutter Hospital. So if the RCF gave up a 6.0 near there we would have serious problems. I believe David Schwartz of the USGS is right. This major sleeper over here is waking up and twice of late, very close to home. Maybe I will get to say Wahoo one of these days....Petra A microearthquake occurred at 6:46:26 AM (PST) on Wednesday, November 23, 2005. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Magnitude 2.7 - duration magnitude (Md) Follow Ups: ● Re: RCF - So Close - Cathryn 19:09:11 - 11/23/2005 (30966) (0) ● Re: RCF - So Close - Don in Hollister 13:03:49 - 11/23/2005 (30933) (1) ● No Don, You're Wrong - Petra 15:22:42 - 11/23/2005 (30961) (1) ● Re: No Don, You're Wrong - Don in Hollister 18:52:22 - 11/23/2005 (30962) (1) ● Re: No Don, You're Wrong - Petra 19:03:52 - 11/23/2005 (30964) (0) |
