Hi Glen. There was an article published in California Geology, 2/88 by R.B. Schaal (UCDavis) that looked at lost pet reports in the SJ Mercury. They found no correlation in the San Jose area over a 3-year period 1/83-12/85. You may want to contact them and see if they still have the article, or know where you can find it.
