Ara could probably answer this one better than anybody. I think I have read that the bullet trains in Japan shut down based on seismicity, even if that activity is far away. Something along those lines could be done in southern California. If there is a major rupture on SAF near Mexicali, I think that would give us a couple of minutes warning. Let me do some math. But first, is my assumption that primary waves travel at 5 to 7 Km per second correct? Also the following L waves, Rayleigh waves do the most damage? This all based on a logarithmic expectation that the larger the primary, the larger the L wave. Animals don't mean crapola in this circumstance.
