I had a friend who used to live three blocks from the San Diego Zoo and I asked him to let me know if he heard anything from the animals or birds before earthquakes.

This goes back a few years, but I believe it was during the night when Hector Mines had its quake, he said he heard his three dogs barking like crazy and they were jumping on his bed. He woke up and was yelling and asking them what the blank is going on and then the quake hit. He said at the time the earthquake happened he could hear the lions in the zoo making huge noises. But as to anything in the days before the earthquake, he had nothing to report.

From people in my area where lots of them raise Llamas and horses I've heard all of them say they act strangely before earthquakes. They are restless, want out of their enclosures and don't eat normally. I think that is fairly consistent with most large animals prior to earthquakes.
