Hi All, I received this message in my e-mail tonight and I thought you might enjoy reading what Senator Boxer is communicating on the issue of EQ preparedness...Petra I thought you would be interested in the following message. =================================================== Dear Friend: When lists of the worst potential national disasters are made, it is not surprising that a very large earthquake in the San Francisco Bay Area is almost always included. Most experts agree that such an earthquake could leave hundreds dead and injured, thousands homeless, and hundreds of thousands without basic services. I am working in Washington to make sure that we are ready for such an earthquake or other disaster in California. I want to make sure that such an event will be met with a quick and effective response from Washington, DC. However, much of the responsibility for preparedness must fall on individuals and families in the area. Getting ready and being prepared to be self-sufficient for 72 hours following a disaster is a vital task for anyone who wants to survive a natural disaster. On my Senate website, we have created a “Getting Ready” guide that suggests steps that you can take to prepare for a natural disaster, including a large earthquake. I encourage you to visit this feature and then take action. The guide is organized in easy-to-follow steps so that you can walk through them one at a time. The most important part is to get started. My “Getting Ready” feature can be found at http://boxer.senate.gov/gettingready.cfm You will also find some helpful links to other preparedness sites. I invite you to share this information with your family and friends so they can be ready, too. Sincerely, Barbara Boxer United States Senator
