Peeps are just more informed |
Don I see what you are saying. At any rate, people in the Bay Area are just a lot more informed. I grew up in the Bay Area, went through Loma Prieta, keep up on you and Petra's comments on what the media says now, and let me tell ya, its day and night from Southern California. Its good to see that Brian Hackney still keeps you guys up to date and that there are articles and studies. It maybe more complicated down here, but the media NEVER addresses it. They should have PSAs that say just that, "We in LA live on top of very complicated and poorly understood potential quake faults, BE PREPARED, they could deliver a repeat of Northridge at any time." But they don't. The reporting of quakes down here is much different than up there as well. I remember when a quake would hit up north that was at least 4+ we as viewers of the local media were guaranteed a report at 11 on what fault, what USGS had to say, etc. Here in LA it gets so outrageously sensationalized that there is no educational value.
