GRR ... 2 questions/need prof. help |
Don et. al., You probably all think I need professional help, but here are two questions anyway. Don, your &^&^! map doesn't include Santa Cruz county. Sure, you can select the Santa Cruz portion of the San Andreas, but it seems to omit the whole county when the shake map shows up. Ideas? I'm not home, so please don't call. If you could answer me here, that would be great. Secondly, we were just up in Eugene, Oregon, at the southern end of the Willamette Valley, visiting one of our sons. This is the one who graduated in geophysics from the U. of O. there, but is a professional jazz pianist. Anyway, he was telling us that when the Pacific plate subducts, it won't all go at once. It could happen anywhere from Alaska to far northern CA, and it would happen in hunks, separated by as many as hundreds of years. His field of study was plate techtonics, so I am loathe to argue with him. Should I be concerned, or is he right about this? I should add we are considering a move up there. Thanks mucho to anyone who wants to throw their two cents at either of these questions.
