1952 Kern County Quake |
Hi Chris. The 1952 M=7.5 Kern County quake occurred less then 5 miles from today’s quake. My aunt lived in Visalia at the time. My dad and I went down there to help her clean up. The house came through the quake with very little damage to the contents, but the garage, if you will pardon the pun, looked like an earthquake hit it. Everything that could have possibly fallen off the shelves fell off the shelves. I remember my aunt saying that she had been wanting to clean the place up, but had expected to be a little better organized then the quake was, but this would be as good a time to start as any. We spent a couple of days there and during that time we felt a number of aftershocks. No damaging ones there, but they were attention getters never the less. Take Care…Don in creepy town http://www.data.scec.org/chrono_index/kerncoun.html
