Hi Canie,

This topic of discussion reminds me of a TV show in which Lucy Jones was the scientist being interviewed. Though I cannot quote her, I think this would be fairly close to what she said. She was saying that since the San Andreas seems to be locked, which is happening without that movement the thrust faults running west to east are moving and as they jamb up against the San Andreas eventually they break. An interesting anomoly she showed was that the oil fields down below, such as Long Beach were experiencing significant reductions of oil, however in the hills behind this area, oil was emerging there.

The lower San Andreas into Calexico and Ocotillo Wells have been active off and on for the past two years with the occasional 5ish quake in the area. As to whether this sequence is much like the others, is hard to ascertain. But should we not be looking to thrust faults especially near Northridge for future activity? Just an observation leads me to think of both Ventura and Santa Monica area's as they have had clustering earthquakes over the last six months or more, with no 4.0 quakes.

While some areas seem a certainty to deliver something, so often these quakes arrive from the most unexpected locations. Keeps the mystery of Mother Earth yet to be discovered.
