This may be a dumb question, but I looked up the seismicity of Louisiana and though the risk around New Orleans is almost zero, I wonder if: 1) the additional weight of water might stress the ground either there or in adjacent, riskier areas; and 2)whether the cessation of pumping oil in the area out combined with the shifting water weight might increase the pressure? Though no faults were named, there was a max. intensity VI quake Oct. 19, 1930 60 miles west of New Orleans and I seem to recall several quakes (last couple of years) in the other hurricane stricken states to the east. It would be horific, but not impossible. On a separate note, my husband is a specialist in disasters such as these (he's not there yet but probably soon) and we both agree that FEMA may not allow rebuilding in many areas due to the risk. Sadly, $ dictates and it will likely be the poorer areas of New Orleans that will not be rebuilt. Beth
