Re: editing messages=from Berkland |
From Jim, "You handled that very well. It looks like Brian would like to start a feud between us and I question his role. It is clear he hasn't read the book." Jim, I'm sure you'll be reading this. Yes I have read the book. When I picked up the book, I was expecting a book about you and your life of trying to predict earthquakes. Although I am skeptical of your methods, I wanted to learn more about them and about you as a person. I don't just disagree with things simply because it goes against the grain. I want to understand them so I can explain why I disagree when taken to that task. The first chapter was great. After that it became less and less about you and more and more about other people. I rapidly became dissapointed. The deeper into the book I got the more it seemed to be about Cal herself. Yes, there's the occasional mention of you here and there, and there is the chapter detailing some of your predictions and the results. But that's it. Most of the book went elsewhere. The book did not read as a biography of Jim Berkland. I was disappointed. I was expecting something solely/mostly about you and I didn't get that. I'm sorry if my comments to Cal offend you, but that's how I feel. I honestly feel that somone of your noteriety should have gotten a better treatment. But if you are happy with the deal, then I guess that's all that matters for you. But I came away from the book not learning much new about you or your methods. Although I disagree with you, I still have a level of respect for you, especially for sticking to your guns.
