Re: And Nobody Predicted It |
Hi Glen. The only purpose for a prediction such as the one he made is to be able to say he predicted the quake. It isn’t useful. It would be the same as if I said there will be an M=7.0 next month in the State of California. It doesn’t do anyone any good. The whole purpose behind quake predictions is to be able to prepare for it. Lets say were going to have an M=7.0 within 50 miles of the Bay Area on Aug. 20, 2005. This would allow them to shut down the bridges for that day. They could bring in the police and fire department personnel. You could shut down the gas line, stop all the trains, the hospitals could bring in extra staff. Lots of various materials can be pre-positioned for the quake. Business could close to allow their employees to go home and prepare for the quake. They could even leave the area if they wanted to. To say there could be an M=7.0 next month in the State of California isn’t good enough. You can’t shut down the whole State. You can almost bet that the first official prediction had better be correct because if it isn’t there are going to be a lot of skeptics for the next prediction. You saw the reaction of the people to Kellis Borok’s prediction last year. Everyone went about business as usual. Very few people paid any heed to it.
