Re: well level, one big mess

Hi John. There were no changes in the water flow from the springs on my Aunts ranch before the quake, but immediately after the quake the spring used for the house increased its flow from 6 gals a minute to almost 11 gals a minute. Over a period of about 3 months it returned to normal.

The second spring also change, but never returned to the previous level. The third spring now stops flowing, or comes very close to it during the late summer.

The spring on the Fitzsimons ranch stopped flowing about a month before the quake. The flow returned for about a week after the quake occurred. It hasn’t flowed since. Both locations are about 6 miles SE of the quake.

Some people complained about cloudy water for a couple of weeks after the quake. I know where I worked at the filters were so plugged up with sand that they had to be removed and replaced in order to get water flowing again. This is about 27 miles SE of the quake.

The quake also cracked a 30-inch fire suppression line, but we didn’t know the location until about a year later. The jockey pump kept coming on to keep pressure on the line so we knew there was a leak somewhere. When the line went the diesel pump and the 450HP electric pump came on pushing 3000 gallons of water a minute at 400PSI. Talk about a geyser. Water shot up into the air for 150 feet and washed half of the hillside down as well as tearing up the road. We isolated the break by using the PIV valves. It was one big mess. Take Care…Don in creepy town
