The last earthquake within 100 km of this epicenter with M>=2.4 according to data from CERI occurred on October 17, 2003 with M 2.7 near Kennedy, AL. One other event of similar magnitude has occurred in the area in the past four years - an M 2.5 near Glen Allen on Feb. 10, 2002. The earthquake near Manila, Arkansas today of M 2.8 was felt lightly with intensity III throughout much of northeastern Arkansas and southeastern Missouri and into Tennessee. This is the first felt earthquake in the region since an M 3.9 south of Ridgely, TN on June 2, 2005. Two moderate earthquakes of M 4.1 hit the region on Feb. 10 and May 1, 2005. Nine earthquakes of M>=2.8 have hit the region (35.5-36.5N 89-91W) in the past 40 months - about one per 4.5 months.
