Re: all quiet in California |
Well I know Lucy Jones has her statistics about bigger quakes following within hours and the longer we go the chances diminish. HOWEVER, in the past 20 years this has not always been the case. Don has pointed out several times how Loma Prieta was proceeded by up to a year w/ 2 5+ quakes. Landers was proceeded 2 months by a 6.1 foreshock. Whittier had 2 seperate 5 quakes months apart. The east bay of San Francisco (San Ramon Valley) has seen swarms of 4+ quakes that were related, but, weeks apart. So I guess what I'm saying is that I don't take too much comfort when Lucy goes on TV and says, "The quake happened 4 hours ago, we are in a better situation with every passing hour and the chances diminish.." DO they really? Based on what I've experienced not always. Follow Ups: ● Re: all quiet in California - chris in suburbia 08:24:53 - 6/23/2005 (26538) (0) |
