A Note About Landslides |
Hi All, I was watching a TV program last night on the Discovery Channel and they covered the 1964 Alaskan Good Friday earthquake. Much to my surprise they showed an area known as Turnigan Arm/Turnigan Heights which has new million dollar homes built on top of this serious landslide area. Some of you may recall film footage of this area which literally marched to the shore. Just about every house in the area was a total loss and they twisted and turned dramatically. This is one of the areas which shook for 7 minutes. I was quite shocked to think that the city government would allow building permits in such an area, or that people would somehow think they were buying a home in an area which was safe. So I am at a loss to understand this situation and though history may not repeat itself exactly the same way, that area is not foreign to moderate to large earthquakes and it all seems unbelievable. I hope the future of Laguna Hills 40 years from now is not going to be like Alaska. Petra Follow Ups: ● Re: A Note About Landslides - chris in suburbia 04:07:19 - 6/4/2005 (26246) (0) |
