Re: Blue Canyon along Santa Ynez fault? |
Blue Canyon is indeed visible from HWy 154. Going to the north, just after you peak over San Marcos Pass, Blue Canyon is rather distinctive to the northeast. It actually looks blue, especially in the spring if the rains have created new slides. It is a marvelous spot for all kinds of rocks, many of which are rarely seen in the world. The geology there is a real jumble, giving meaning to the word "melange" in many ways. The Figuroa Mountain region is also filled with great rocks. Some relict "smokers" from ancient deep sea vents were once there---but later destroyed by vandals. (May they rot in hell) Many episodes of faulting are apparent in the Santa Ynez River Valley. I did some mapping there years ago. Sigh. Miss the field geology! Follow Ups: ● Re: Blue Canyon along Santa Ynez fault? - chris in suburbia 04:18:38 - 5/29/2005 (26176) (0) |
