Re: Next Great Quake for Bay Area Viewers |
Todd, This program was very good when following on the heels of the documentary they aired about 6 months ago. In that one they said all the major faults in the Bay Area could go at any time and produce a 6.6 or greater quake. Now this one went a little further in getting down to identifing something which is a little more ominous. I e-mail Hackney and told him I hoped that on the horizon would be a show about awareness and preparedness. This information is sorely lacking. Most earthquake training is now in elementary schools. They feel the kids will learn and teach their parents. But parents do need to have an adult program which addresses many of their needs they haven't thought about yet. So many households have Mom and Dad at work with the kids at school or daycare. They all need to understand they might not be able to get together for a period of time if the roads are bad, but reinforce they will get there one way or another. They say cell phone use will be so full of traffic many will be blocked by this extreme use and that will be very upsetting after a tragic event. Basically, if we are that close to moderate to large earthquakes, preparedness needs to be addressed now.
