Hi Dyan. The recent quake in Nevada is to far to the east to be in the Walker Lane Belt.
According to the last maps that I have seen in regards to the Walker Lane Belt it starts at the Garlock fault, or the Coso Volcanic Fields and runs north through Owens Valley into Nevada just north of Mammoth Lakes then back into Calif. north of Lake Tahoe.
The WLB is thought to be 700Km long and 100 to 300Km wide. However I think the recent Hector Mines quake may change some thinking as to where it starts in the south.
The two quakes north of Lake Tahoe are in the WLB as well as the one near Markleeville.
The WLB is a part of the ECSZ and I do feel we are going to see more activity in that whole area in the future. I also feel that any future studies done in regards to the WLB are going to find that it is wider then previously thought. There is no doubt in my mind that the quakes in the area of Goldfield are in the WLB although they have never been identified as such. Take Care…Don in creepy town.
