M5.1 Central Valley 22 km W of Wheeler Ridge |
There was a M3.1 near the San Andreas early this morning GMT, followed by a M5.1 in the central valley (see link). Wheeler Ridge is an active fold that is propagating east....above a S-dipping (or SW-dipping) thrust fault that is exposed in a gravel mine (or was, 10 years ago). Underneath this thrust is the Pleito thrust....this is part of the system of thrusts along the west side of Central Valley that Don has posted on in the past. So...the pair mean anything, and does it mean anything for a larger quake? I have no feeling for this. I still think that Sumatra is dangerous over the next few months south of the equator......I have a gut feeling about that (based on standard seismotectonics and logic).
